Software-defined vehicles (SDV) offer convenience features, enabling new in
vehicle experiences and delivering updates and services over-the-air (OTA). The
developers need to use digital twin environment to develop SDV . Renesas offer
software development kits, but it is not enough to use digital twin environment yet.

Project Overview – R-Car DevOps Workbench (Renesas Electronics, Japan)

  • As a Technical Lead – DevOps, Cloud & Automation at Quest Global Japan Corporation, Tokyo, I led the architecture, automation, and CI/CD strategy for the R-Car DevOps Workbench, a core platform enabling next-generation Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) development for Renesas. The objective of this project was to build a secure, scalable, cloud-driven Digital Twin ecosystem supporting end-to-end development, simulation, testing, and deployment workflows.

  • I architected a robust Azure-based hybrid cloud platform integrating Azure AD, API Gateway, Django RBAC, GitLab CI/CD, Airflow, AKS, and Azure ARC. This architecture supported authentication, orchestration, CI/CD triggering, Kubernetes provisioning, hybrid connectivity, TBF system integrations, and real-time telemetry ingestion.

  • A key highlight of the platform was the per-workspace SSH key model, where private keys were securely maintained in Blob Storage and injected into compute pods at runtime. I automated container provisioning, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Services, and Pod creation using GitLab pipelines, ensuring consistent and compliant deployments.

  • I designed and deployed a complete Airflow DAG ecosystem, including Save DAG, Polling DAG, and Execution DAG workflows. AKS was integrated with Azure ARC to enable hybrid operations, bridging on-premise TBF systems and cloud workloads. I implemented full-stack observability with Application Insights, OpenTelemetry, Usage Analytics, and Log Analyzer dashboards.

  • To meet enterprise requirements, I documented the system extensively through SRD, PDD, HLD/LLD, architecture diagrams, WBS plans, and governance frameworks. I conducted on-site workshops with Renesas teams in Tokyo and managed sprint ceremonies with cross-functional teams across Dev, QA, SIL, HIL, and Platform Engineering.

  • I engineered a multi-tenant workspace isolation model at Kubernetes and CI/CD layers, ensuring strong security boundaries between users and projects. I optimized AKS cost through auto-scaling, rightsizing, and spot nodes, and automated compliance with audit logging through Azure Monitor and Kusto queries.

  • Additionally, I built internal CLI tools for faster DevOps operations, mentored junior developers, guided multi-cloud and micro-frontend migration assessments, and collaborated with QA/DevOps/Support teams to ensure smooth end-to-end delivery.
